www.viewtraffic.info offers viewers access to live traffic information, thereby giving people the option to plan their journey to avoid congestion, thus cutting down on fuel usage and emissions. Brilliant!

The system is free to use, and cameras are steadily being added. It was trialled in London with the help of the BBC, and the aim is now to have cameras covering the whole of the UK within the next six months.

Is this really that useful though? If I set off from Portsmouth to Glasgow at 7am and check the traffic around London or Birmingham before I leave, surely the state of the roads will have changed completely by the time I get there! We would assume that its at its best when there is someone in the vehicle with mobile internet access - obviously not the driver! However, if it helps our congested roads even a little bit, then we’re behind it all the way.
