Obesity in Europe has doubled in the last 20 years, and Truck drivers are especially at risk. Therefore Volvo Trucks now train their drivers on diet and health issues. Lucien van Zuilen, Driver Trainer at Volvo Trucks in Holland, recently explained to The Mover magazine that its all about making them aware of how to eat and live more healthily.
Good luck to Volvo, but as a recent study by Inge Van Bogerijen pointed out, the main reasons for drivers having high BMI’s are the high-fat food served at truck stops, the sedentary nature of the work, and the lack of time due to long working days. However, it is in your best interest to try and keep your drivers fighting fit – healthy employees are less tired and more concentrated. As far as Volvo Trucks are concerned, they are simply investing in their staff the same way they invest in vehicles. So – less of the bacon sarnies, and we should all be leaner, meaner, working machines!
